Are you getting body confidence ‘right’?

Do you ever worry that you aren’t doing this body confidence thing ‘right’?

Along the body confidence journey, it’s common to wonder if the actions you’re taking are the ‘right’ ones.

BUT your body confidence journey is unique to you, which means there aren’t any external indicators to measure yourself against.

In this post, I’m sharing the ONE question that will help you decide if the progress you’re making feels good for YOU.

Answering this question will help you to experience more of what you want along your body confidence journey.

How do I know if I’m getting body confidence ‘right’?

One of the things women worry about on their body confidence journey is whether they are doing it ‘right’.

In an achievement orientated culture where we are fixated on quantifiable measures of success, this isn’t a surprising response.

BUT, I believe that there is no such thing as getting it ‘right’ or ‘wrong’.  Body Confidence is a journey, and it’s your journey nobody else’s.  This means that there aren’t any set in stone measures out there that you can or need to measure yourself against.

The most important indicator for your progress on your body confidence journey is how you feel.

Ask yourself this question

When you first start out on your journey, it’s useful to ask yourself what you want to feel, and what you want to experience more of in your life.

The answer to this question will be as unique as you are.  For example, you might want to feel more peace and calm being in your skin and spend more time doing things that you want to do.

The flip side of this question is to think about what you want to experience less of?  You might want to spend less time obsessing about your looks or weight and feel less guilty about what you’re eating.

Check-in with yourself

Along your body confidence journey, you can mentally check-in with yourself and notice if the things you want to experience more or less of are happening.

This isn’t so you can beat yourself up if you don’t notice any forward motion, it’s just information.  It’s a reminder that you may need to make some adjustments like seeking support or reminding yourself of what you wanted when you embarked on this journey.

Remember that the journey goes in both directions – you’re going to take steps forwards and backwards.  But all progress, not matter how big or small is still progress!  AND, even when you don’t perceive any forward motion, you’re still gathering feedback on what’s happening which you can use to move you closer to how you want to feel.

One really useful way to notice what’s happening along your journey is to keep a journal to record your feelings.  When you notice something positive or even neutral in the way you are experiencing your body, make a note of it.  AND, do the same when you’re not.   This practice will help to give you the feedback you need throughout your journey.

You’re doing the best that you can, and that’s all you can do!  Don’t get caught up in thinking that there is a right or wrong way to do body confidence or that you have to hit some arbitrary performance indicators!  This is your relationship with your body, which can’t be neatly quantified.

I’d love to know what you want to experience more and less of along your body confidence journey.  Please please leave a comment below.
