How to feed your positive voice

I bet if I asked you whether you’re aware of your negative inner voice, you’d respond with a resounding, “Yes!”

BUT, if I asked you about your positive inner voice, you might struggle to think of times when you’ve heard it.

Believe it or not, we all have a positive inner voice.

The problem is, this voice is normally shouted down by your more dominant inner critic. This means that it can be hard to tune into the kinder, more helpful voice.

The good news is, with consistent effort, it’s possible to feed and cultivate your positive inner voice.

As your amp up the volume on your positive voice, it’ll help to temper and balance the inner critic when it’s on a roll!

In this post, I’m sharing 3 ways that you can consciously feed your positive voice.

Watch or read below:

Positive voice versus critic

Your positive voice is that loving and compassionate voice within you that knows that you are worthy. Although this voice exists, it isn’t the one we focus on much.

That’s because the voice of our inner critic is the generally the loudest. That’s the voice that puts you down and tells you that you aren’t good enough.

The critic’s voice is part of your self-protection mechanism. It is activated when your brain perceives you may be in some kind of danger.

This inner critic is easily triggered by negative experiences or messages. If you are repeatedly exposed to messages, for example, that say you need to shrink your body to be acceptable, your critic is likely to agree.

The negative thoughts of your critic stick much more easily than the thoughts that come from your positive voice.

Feeding your positive voice

Just because the inner critic seems to have all the power, it doesn’t mean you can’t take action to reinforce your positive voice.

It’s there, but it needs to be fed constantly. If we were fed as many positive messages about bodies as we are the negative ones, how do you think we’d feel about them?

I think we’d be a lot more comfortable in our skins!

Consciously feeding your positive voice will help to bring more balance to your thinking, to help you feel better not just about your body, but your life!

Three ways to feed your positive voice

What can you do to feed your positive voice for better body image? I’ve got some ideas to get you started:

Follow body positive advocates

Whether that’s on social media or listening to podcasts or watching videos. This will help to give you a more balanced perspectives on bodies.

Hang out with body positive people

These are people who are accepting of all bodies, and don’t feel the need to comment on or put down others for their appearance. They accept that there is more to each of us than what we look like.

Create your own body values

Create a list of how you intend to treat your body in a kind, compassionate and positive way, and put it somewhere you will see it each day. I call this a Body Confidence Manifesto.
